Marcus Garvey Essay -- essays papers
Marcus Garvey ââ¬Å"Final Examâ⬠Marcus Garvey, was born in Jamaica in 1887 and is considered to be the father of the Black Nationalism Movement. During the early 1900ââ¬â¢s, after reading Booker T. Washingtonââ¬â¢s Up From Slavery, Garvey pledged to organize Blacks throughout the world with an agenda of Black unity and pride. Moreover, Garvey achieved his greatest influence in the Untied States where there was a growing ambition among Blacks for justice, wealth, and a sense of community. From the time of World War I, up until the mid-1920ââ¬â¢s, Graveyââ¬â¢s Universal Negro Improvement Association(UNIA) was the largest Black organization in African-American history. An estimated million men and women from the United States, the Caribbean, and Africa belonged to it. When Garvey arrived in the United States in March 1916, the Black populace was about to suffer a severe blow that would make them ideal candidates for Graveyââ¬â¢s movement. During the Reconstruction period that followed the American Civil War, many African-Americans lost faith in the American political process. They were promised many reforms and reparations that were never realized. However, World War 1 bought a new sense of prosperity to blacks because they felt they had a second chance to prove themselves as well as attain their piece of the proverbial American pie. Implementing Algerââ¬â¢s philosophy which states ââ¬Å"...heroes prove themselves through inspired acts of heroism and devotion,â⬠many blacks believed if they foug...

Foreign Direct Investment Disadvantages Essay
There is a lot to be said for big retail to come to India, but we cannot simply be taken in and mimic something which is being pushed down our throats because those who make the policy appear to not have the faintest clue on how retail really works in India If there were clear answers in black and white to the question, there would really be no need for any debate on the issue, but the truth is that it is simply not that simple. On a philosophical and emotional level, the answer could be that any form of foreign participation in a domestic market is rife with dangers of the colonialism sort, but in this day and age, while the core concept of being wary of foreign dominance may still be true, the fact remains that there are plenty of ways to ensure that it works on a win-win basis for all concerned. The main problem with the current status of foreign direct investment (FDI) in retail in India is that it does not provide a level playing field to other players of the domestic and small sort. In addition, it appears to take a rather naive and simplistic view on certain aspects, which like myths being repeated, tend to become urban legends. On the other hand, no country can afford to take on an isolationist approach. To start with, it may help to go through the background and policy note on the Cabinet decision on FDI in retail, as put up on various places on the internet. Facebook, PIB) As this writer sees it, with a holistic view of the subject and not just based on jingoism of the ââ¬Å"burn down the mallsâ⬠(right view) and ââ¬Å"bad for farmersâ⬠(left view) sort, but on rational evaluation of larger issues, there are some points which need to be straightened out. Large retail is inevitable, and that is a simple truth, but there has to be larger perspective for public good which seems to be missing from this policy. The people of India come first, including those who want a better product or service buying or selling experience, and at the end of the day i t is their wallets which will decide where they go. But at the same time, the government, with the policy as outlined above, cannot sell the baby with the bath-water, and make things worse. Some suggestions: 1) The present Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC) Act requires urgent revamp if we really want to help the rural and agricultural sectors with a better go to market scenario. This, along with rapid introduction of the goods and services tax (GST) as well as ease of inter- and intra-state movement of foodgrain, agri products and fresh produce, would do more to improve matters, as well as do wonders for our conomy in a variety of waysââ¬âmost of all in terms of controlling prices as well as reducing storage and transit losses. 2) The policy shown above makes a case that ââ¬Å"brandsâ⬠by big FDI retailers need to be carried across borders without in any way making it clear that the quality of those brands needs to be same across borders, too. As of now we see that with these manufacturers and retailers there is on e lower quality for sale in India and there is a better quality for sale in developed countriesââ¬âcase in point being soft drinks, processed foods, confectionery, electronics, motor vehicles and others. If anything is by way of a different quality for India for price or other reasons, then let it be clearly marked as such. 3) Specifically in the case of packaged and processed foods, the policy does not say anything about adherence to best case scenarios in terms of labelling of ingredients and avoiding misleading marketing ploys, thereby leading to a situation where outright dangerous products are foisted on Indian consumers. The amount of product detail available for consumers in developed countries must be matched for India, too. India cannot become a vast chemistry lab for processed foods or anything else. 4) More empirical data needs to be provided on subjects like ââ¬Å"improvement in supply chainâ⬠. India is the country where the passenger rail ticket deliveries, fresh hot cooked food by dabbawallas and diamonds as well as other precious stones by angadias have set better than global standards in supply chains, so the same standards need to be quantified and applied to those seeking 100% FDI in retail. It is not too much to ask for them to match the Indian standardsââ¬âunless those who made the policy are ashamed of our prowess. ) The investments in retail by the FDI route, when they come, should come only through a short-list of recognised tax adherence countries. The misused option of FDI coming in through known or suspect tax havens needs to be blockedââ¬âfirmly. Likewise, full disclosures of the strictest sort need to be made on who the investors areââ¬âagain, these cannot be suitcas e corporate identities hiding behind consultants and banks in shady tax havens or other countries. Unlike what happened in, for example, airlines, Indians need to know who is investing and from where. And in case there are legal issues, then we need to know who the faces are who will go through the Indian legal system, unless those who made the policy are ashamed of our legal system. 6) The payment processing and cash management as well as tax adherence part of this industry, both in terms of procurement and sale, need to be through the Indian banking system. And by fully transparent methods, so that float as well as control remains in India at all times, as is the case in developed countries.

Concept of Fate In The Tragedy of Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare - Free Essay Example
Sample details Pages: 3 Words: 891 Downloads: 7 Date added: 2019/03/25 Category History Essay Level High school Tags: Julius Caesar Essay William Shakespeare Essay Did you like this example? Fate is inevitable, unavoidable, and ultimately ends in death. In The Tragedy of Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare, multiple characters experience a deadly fate, but it is not completely unavoidable. People also have control of their own lives and the ability to make decisions, affecting them and others. Shakespeare uses characters in this play to illustrate the theme of fate and to project how easily it can be tampered with. Fate, as a theme in this play, is involved in many of the characters lives. Fate is dependent on a persons actions. Julius Caesar is a character who inflicts death upon himself. Caesar ruled in the triumvirate with two powerful men, and when it came crashing down, Caesar was the only one lucky enough to stay alive. He had been involved in the death of another member, Pompey, whom was loved by the Romans: O you hard hearts, you cruel men of Rome, Knew you not Pompey? (1:1:38-39). Caesar is now taking Pompeys place, and was being celebrated, when he killed the peoples ruler. If Caesar hadnt been so ambitious for power, he wouldnt have gone into battle with Pompey and ultimately taken the throne from him. Then, when he is awarded with the power, he turned down the crown three times to seem humble, He put it by thrice, every time gentler than other; and at every putting by mine honest neighbors shouted (1:2:228-230). Most people still applauded him, but others saw his bluff. If Caesar wouldnt have been as greedy for the power, he would have been alive at the end of the play. The reader sees Caesars d ownfall play out. After killing a respected member of the government and taking over, there is bound to be criticism. The senators begin to turn on Caesar, just like he does against Pompey. Donââ¬â¢t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Concept of Fate In The Tragedy of Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare" essay for you Create order All the senators join to justly plot the murder of Caesar, but they dont complete it without consequences. Brutus, a well-respected man of Rome, believed in the mission to put Caesar to rest, And therefore think him of a servants egg Which hatched, would as his king grow mischievous, And kill him in the shell (2:1:32-34). The conspirators do not feel as though Caesar is trustworthy as a ruler; he did turn on Pompey. The belief is that Rome will be a much better place if Caesar is not part of it. Some conspirators had other reasons, on top of Caesar being selfish and greedy, that led them to participate in killing Julius Caesar. For example, Metellus Cimber, a conspirator, asks Caesar one last time before he dies, to let his brother come back: Is there no voice more worthy than my own, to sound more sweetly in great Caesars ear For the repealing of my banished brother? (3:1:49-51). Caesar had banished his brother from Rome prior to the setting of the play and Metellus seems to hold a grudge about it throughout the plot. Caesar is put to death in order to prove a point that Rome and its citizens would be better off without a ruler like him. Participating in the murder soon comes back to haunt each conspirator and lead to the formation of their own fates. The conspirators all face the repercussions for their actions. Brutus allowed Antony to speak at Caesars funeral. This was a big mistake. He uses sarcasm to address the conspirators as being honorable throughout his speech. By rallying the citizens up, together with Antony they can riot against each of the conspirators. They even go so far as to kill an innocent man with the same name as Cinna, Cinna the poet. A group of citizens carry Cinna the poet off the stage and one can only imagine what they would do to a real conspirator: Tear him! Tear him! (They attack him) Come, brands, ho! To Brutus, to Cassius! Burn all! Some to Decius house, and some to Cascas; some to Ligarius! (3:3:35-38). The people are finally giving all the senators what they believe is just. Brutus should have listened to Cassius and decided not to let Antony speak because now every Roman citizen wants the conspirators dead, and all eventually face that. Brutus could have saved himself by refusing to join in the first place, they all could have. But all of them participated and must deal with the consequences. Before the battle begins, Brutus tells Cassius, But this same day Must end that work the ides of March begun (5:1:112-113). The conspirators completed their mission on the 15th of March, and then their fates were altered. Caesar made decisions and acted in ways that formed his fate; the Conspirators should have seen their death coming. Life is full of choices, each choice that is made contributes to a persons fate. Caesar killed Pompey and was a selfish ruler, for his short time in power. The conspirators saw the truth in this and decided to act on Caesars bad ruling capabilities. But, by killing Caesar, they too changed their own fates. Any little action made by a person can be remembered and held against them. What someone thinks is unfair or just may not appear that way to everyone. It only takes one small decision to change a persons fate. Keep in mind every time a decision is going to be made, that people will remember it.

Free Will. In This Paper I Will Do An Introduction To And
Free Will In this paper I will do an introduction to and explain to everyone an important question that Iââ¬â¢d like to ask the people and help answer for all of you. I really do hope that all of you agree with me on my points that I come across or at least understand where Iââ¬â¢m coming from with my argument that I am trying to put out in the open. So what I will be mainly focusing on primarily is as a viewpoint in philosophy, we will see how a person like myself can exist with the ability to have free will in their hands. Actually to be even more precise on the topic and not make it so broad for everyone I would like for all of us to contemplate over a more precise issue on the matter and that issue that I will explain to you about is onâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦So what free will means is on a philosophical level is that it is the ability for a persons to choose, think, and act voluntarily. What that means is that free will gives the human being the potential to decide on anything. They can also be under the impression of anything as well. For some the big contributor to free will is that you can take action of one s own free will so you can basically do anything freely in a sense. Thatââ¬â¢s the main thing Iââ¬â¢m trying to get at in regards to free will. In the views of many philosophers, for them to believe in the concept of free will they have to believe in that every human being can be the kind of author that they want to be. So they are the author of all of their own reactions or actions that they do and have to have the thinking of rejecting the idea that all human actions are then in a sense determined by the external conditions or fate. This is where determinism comes along. What determinism means based on a philosophical level is that it is just like a philosophical kind of idea that is in every event or state of affairs. This is included in every type of human decision and action and even the inevitable and the most necessary consequence of the antecedent states of affairs. What this means is basically that Determinism is the theoretical theory that everything that happens which also incorporates everything that the person likeShow MoreRelatedPersonal Note On Writing And Writing889 Words à |à 4 PagesI would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude for all the efforts that you have invested in helping me improve my writing.
